Preparing
For Your Plastic Cosmetic Surgery Consultation
There are
several things you should do before your consultation
such as research several surgeons so you will be able
to check out all of your options. Don't be afraid to
travel, although having a surgeon close to you is
ideal. If you can't find a good breast augmentation
surgeon in your area, look into a nearby city that you
would be willing to travel.
It is important to check credentials, malpractice
information, state medical licensure and speak to real
patients.
Don't get
discouraged if you don't find a surgeon you are
comfortable with right at first. If you look long
enough you will find a surgeon who you feel comfortable
with.
- Research
breast augmentation thoroughly.
- Check
around and be aware of all your options.
- Don't be
afraid to ask around.
- Compile a
list of possibilities and begin checking them out
for disciplinary actions and check for possible
negative media coverage.
- Check to
see if the doctor's malpractice insurance ever
been cancelled.
- See what
the American Medical Association (AMA) has on file
about the doctor.
- Keep in mind that just because a doctor has
been involved in a lawsuit, settled out of court,
or had a case dismissed, does not mean he is a bad
surgeon.
- Discuss
with your spouse or significant other your wishes
and concerns.
- Remember that
before and
after photos can be retouched digitally and not to
rely on them completely..
- Look
through magazines, old photos or other sources to
help you decide what you do and do not want as a
result.
- Compile a
list of the medications, if any, that you may be
on as a reference.
- Remember
that if you become a much larger size, sleeping on
your stomach may be less comfortable.
- Take into
account sports or hobbies that you enjoy and make
sure your new breast size will allow you to
continue to participate in them.
- Don't be
intimidated.
- Trust
your instincts. Sometimes, if you have a bad
feeling about someone or something, there very
well may be a reason.
- Make
several consultations so that you can get several
opinions.
- Not all
surgeons charge for a consultation. The price of
the consultation does not necessarily reflect on
the skill of the surgeon. Prices vary from free
to $500.
- A
consultation can last from 10 minutes to 2 and 1/2
hours. Make sure all of your questions are
answered.
- Don't be
tricked into scheduling a surgery just because
your consultation fee will be refunded.
